The past and present resonate, just like their partitions progress in parallel with each other. A singular trio that disregards conventions, Gary, Pierre and Marguerite love each other and have decided to face down time and enjoy life to the last moment, with humour and infinite tenderness. Each casts a poetic, lucid, light and solemn gaze upon him or herself, his or her relations with others and on one of our most persistent fears: our own finite nature.

Lucie Depauw, the author
Lucie Depauw was born in 1978 in Lyon. After cinema and television studies, she worked as an assistant director in this field. Passionate about playwriting, she has already written several texts, some of which are published (Éditions Koïnè and Etgso) and translated into German, Serbian, or Italian. For Dancefloor Memories she received a writing grant from the Fondation Beaumarchais in 2009, was a prize-winner at the Journées d’auteurs in Lyon in 2011, and a standout favourite of the Comédie-Française’s Readers’ Bureau in 2012. Other writings include HymeN (2011), Lilli/HEINER (2012) and S.A.S, Théâtre d’opérations et suites cinq étoiles (2013), texts for which she received the support of the National Theatre Centre through its “aide à la creation” scheme, and for the latter text, a grant writing from the Centre national du livre.

Hervé Van der Meulen, le metteur en scène
Metteur en scène, comédien et pédagogue, Hervé Van der Meulen dirige le Studio d’Asnières avec Jean-Louis Martin-Barbaz depuis plus de vingt ans. Son parcours l’a conduit des classiques (Shakespeare, Corneille, Molière, Racine, Marivaux, Goldoni, Feydeau, Claudel) aux contemporains (Daniel Besnehard, Nathalie Fillion) en passant par les grands textes littéraires (Les Vagues de Virginia Woolf, Journal d’un fou de Gogol). Il monte également des spectacles musicaux : Monsieur Choufleuri d’Offenbach, L’Histoire du soldat de Stravinski, La Boîte à joujoux de Debussy, Samson et Dalila de Saint-Saëns… C’est justement l’écriture musicale de Dancefloor Memories, ainsi que la poésie et la sensibilité qui s’en dégagent, qu’Hervé Van der Meulen veut mettre en évidence pour questionner les mécanismes de l’amour et du désir, tout au long de notre existence. Et, au-delà, interroger la mémoire que nous en conservons au plus profond de notre imaginaire et de notre corps.
