Simon Eine, an honorary sociétaire, revives the reading he gave last year at the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier of a unpublished text Victor Haïm wrote for him.
“The violinist Jacob has every reason to want to turn the most tragic page of the 20th century. The sublime Elke, his great love, is strangely the bearer of a memory that is not his, by some psychological phenomenon that neither he nor she can understand. This cacophony illustrates an axiom of a cruel irony: you never know what the past has in store for you!”
Victor Haïm“The play takes the form of a confession. An account by a sensitive artist in which everything suggests happiness, but which veers with brutal ferocity into the absurdity of a bad dream. In the manner of a storyteller, the author recounts a tragic tale embellished with digressions which his humour, and no doubt his love of life, generate so naturally. Here, music acts as an instrument of fate, delivering false notes, taking pleasure in subverting an overly harmonious melody by injecting terrifying dissonances.” Simon Eine
